EIDO-IDEA is a resource and research center whose objective is to develop intellectual resources and pedagogical tools that will be used for the elaboration of a « social intelligence ».
A movement that establishes initiatives of intellectual civic engagement
At the beginning of this 21st century, two worlds – the elaboration of knowledge and civic engagement, crossed each other’s paths and a mutual confrontation, interrogation and enrichment ensued. If, over the course of the 20th century, their borders had started to become places of passage, today they have become intersections. Social movements, civic initiatives, local groups, NGOs, foundations, and humanitarian movements weave more and more ties with intellectuals, scientists, universities, and research centers, in a dynamic as much conflictual as convergent. In China, Mali, India, the United States, South Africa, Brazil, Costa Rica, Canada, France…
The « intellectuals » do not want to continue to develop only abstract, « pure » knowledge; the « activists » do not want their actions to continue to be guided only by voluntarism : one and all increasingly understanding their interdependence.
This new dialect gives way to the elaboration of knowledge at the benefit of socially useful civic knowledge. The actions of which, united by the research of others, produces new resources. These resources are neither global theories nor blind instruments, going beyond the binomial relationship of research and action to constitute the engineering of a new social intelligence in its initial stages.
« EIDO-IDEA, Resource and Research Center for the Elaboration of Civic Knowledge »
A non-profit organization of French rights (law 1901), EIDO-IDEA commits itself to this undertaking. It consists of a resource and research center whose objective is to develop intellectual resources and pedagogical tools that will be used for the elaboration of a « social intelligence ». It favors research on the modalities of elaboration and use of knowledge in order to elaborate resources and come up with concrete propositions on the civic use of knowledge.
Today, EIDO-IDEA constitutes a network of social and intellectual actors : activists, teachers, students, et cetera, who share their modalities of elaboration of knowledge, continuously assessing and enriching them. Even though its headquarters are in France, many of its participants work in other countries. They develop simple, accessible and pedagogical instruments to be used to help others understand what is at stake in their concrete environment. EIDO-IDEA also proposes training modules for non-profits, educational and training organizations, and other institutions, interested by the methods and tools for building and using knowledge.
